Welcome to the Drupal CMS install crash course, and remember your helmet.

Drupal is a powerful, extensible Content Management System that provides non technical users with the ability to instantly and easilly add content to your website.  With this power comes a bit of complexity.  Following is a crash course in using the system.  It is assumed that you have already setup a working install.  We have added a couple of modules as well including the image and rich text editors which allow you to create a page with formatting and multimedia directly within the Drupal environment.  Lets get our hands dirty.

The heart of Drupal is creating content.  In order to do so an administrator will need to setup that access for you.  Lets create some content.

  1. Login to your drupal system
  2. Click on the create content button on the left hand box.  At this point you are presented with multiple choices (Blog, newsletter, email, page, poll, and many more with installable modules).  The entry procedure is the same for most.  For example purposes we are going to create a "personal blog entry."  Click on that link.
    1. Notice the Options box at the top.  I would recommend that you do not check off the "Promoted to front page" box while you are creating the content.
    2. Fill in the boxes that contain a red star.
    3. You may also notice some category boxes.  This is a powerful aspect of Drupal which enables you to have your content listed under multiple categories.  Select any categories that you feel applies to your content.
    4. Know scroll down to the body section which is where you will spend most of your time.
      1. This will probobly remind you of a word processing program such as Microsoft Word.
      2. Begin typing in some text.
      3. Lets add a hyperlink
        1. Select some of the text that you added above.
        2. Click on the chainlink inthe toolbar.
        3. Type in the relevent information.
      4. Pretty neat huh.  Well it gets better.  Lets add an image.
        1. Click on the icon below the body.
        2.  Click on add image.
        3. Fill in the required fields in the popup window and then select any gif, jpg, png file in the image field and hit the submit button.  You will now see your image listed in the popup window.
        4. In the top left pane click on the images name.
        5. You see a preview in the top right pane and in the bottom pane you are presented with some choices.  Click on insert image and the image is now in the body of your content.
